Farm Plastic Recycling

Plasback On Farm Collection

In today's industry, disposal is especially important for agricultural plastics. McCarthy Contracting Ltd works in partnership with the Plasback On Farm Collection scheme for agricultural plastic waste. We are one of the main Baling/Collection hubs for the South Island.

Plasback came to New Zealand in 2006, and has gone from strength to strength. Operating their original bin and liner system, which when combined with on farm collection, has contributed to Plasback not only running a simple and effective system but has meant over 10,000 tonnes of waste collected since the scheme’s inception in 2006. Plasback have introduced new products made from recycled plastics called, Tuffboard, Tuffdeck, and Plaswood.

Plasback was the first product stewardship scheme for agriculture to receive accreditation from the Ministry for the Environment in 2010.

The four main waste streams are:

  1. Silage wrap, silage pit covers, small low density polyethylene (LDPE) feed bags, shrink wrap and pallet covers.
  2. Polypropylene feed, seed and fertiliser bags.
  3. Polypropylene twine
  4. High density polyethelene (HDPE drums) – Exclusive to Ecolab & FIL – 100-200ml drums. These must be triple rinsed.

Please note: we do not collect agrichemical containers or bale net. All collections are on farm.
All waste must be placed into a liner – different waste streams must be kept separate.
